Project Type

Technical Design/ Branding

There is a huge problem with the fashion industry creating huge amounts of waist. Circular design and circular use of products is something that needs to be integrated into business models as best as possible. This project was built around that idea through minimal waste, efficient designs that speak to people who care about upcycling, reuse, and incorporating ecologically focused products.

Project Focus: Circularity

Inspiration

Website Assets_product inspiration.png

This first inspiration board is based off market research of what I would want the technical design to be based off of.

Website Assets_Graphic Inspiration.png

The material inspiration I drew from patchwork, quilting, and geometric designs.  Knowing the final outcomes would be put together with what we would have versus acutely hand picked materials, I think this relayed a good sense of the texture, color and pattern.

Branding Inspiration came from an eclectic grouping materials that were used and wore during the 60's 70's period. Along with a dash of nostalgia, a sense of art nouveau, and whimsy.

Demographic personas

Website Assets_Demographics.png

The demographic is age 15-35 for people who seek a sense of freedom, a sense of something out of the normal, chasers of out of body and grounding experiences, and people who care

about environmentalism.

brand Ideation

Heavy stylistic font related to nature, hand-done methods or creation, or poster styles of the period.

Logo relating to the peace sign or organic geometric design.

Colors being a little bit faded out, natural, or what you would expect to see at a diner or on a energetic, youthful

advertisement or poster of the time.

Style guide

Word mark font chosen based on the geometrical connection to how the textile layout is put together while keeping is flowy, fun and friendly.

Futura also connects to the geometric basis of the product while keeping it clean, legible, and stylish. Como light gives a more flowy sense to the copy that sets it apart from the headers while also complimenting them.

The main colors brown and cream give an earthy vintage theme somewhat derived from what the colors of a faded newspaper would look like. The primary colors give a pop to the main colors while not being over bearing. They create a balance of high and low energy while making a statement through their minimal contrast. They are also muted in the way a vintage magazine ad would be now days.

Logo Decision

The logo is derived from the same method the peace sign was. Instead of containing the semaphore representations of NP, it contains MPY; A simplified version of the brand name.

material pattern basis

Website Assets_materials guide.png

Seamstresses would not be stepping outside this material pattern basis. This creates consistency for the brand when their are so many variables already at play. This also allows the opportunity for materials that might be too small for other patters to be used.

Textile separation

Materials would be separated by weight and material type like cotton and synthetics.

Prototype

I decided to make the fisherman's side-tie pants. I used towel which I would consider a heavy weight fabric. I wanted to use towels cause I thought they would be super awesome

for the beach.
